I was with Control Systems, Inc. , a Process Instrumentation rep for 17 years before starting PTI in 1986. We started with nothing to sell, nobody to sell to and consequently, no income. I met with several companies at the ISA show in Houston that year, signed sales agreements and the rest as they say is history. In 1987, Charlie Haase, the founder and then owner of TMMI, a Denver based rep company ask me to manage his SLC office but I continued to build PTI into what I hoped would become the premier Process Instrumentation company in Salt Lake.
To make a really long story short, PTI acquired the assets of the Salt Lake office of TMMI in 1992 and we became a force not only in the process world but the factory automation world as well. As I look back, ’92 was a big year for PTI, Not only did we acquired TMMI, move into our present location in Murray, but Shirley Knickerbocker joined out staff and next year will be her 20th anniversary. Way to go Shirley!
The first order we every received was from Argonne National Labs in Idaho Falls, Idaho for some Dwyer gauges.
The first company we represented was Brookfield Instruments and Pyromation. Pyro has been around a long time (since 1962).
The first person I hired was my wife, LaDonna.
It all started in a basement, and look at PTI now!
